What I didn’t get is Quik’s repeated mention of the MPC60 “TWO”, as opposed to the original MPC60. Aside from the external case, the ONLY difference between the two machines is the addition of a HEADPHONE OUTPUT on the II. Otherwise —sonically and functionally— they are IDENTICAL machines.

  • kman1501 says:

The reason that he mentions the MPC60 “TWO” is because this was the version that had a few alterations on it. The main one being that there was a software fix of a known bug that corrupted loops and edits.

It was a bone of contention for many producers for a loooong time then AKAI fixed and so peple DO differentiate it by stating the MPC60 Two or Mkll or V2.0 or whatever…..but that’s why!!

mpc 3000, 60, 2500 they all rock. NI Maschine is cool too…the whole sampling approach to make music is just what makes people wanna work for hours…keeps u motivated … like he said…it’s an instrument to express yourself…

me n quik got so much in common we both make beats we both r left handed and we got da same birthday cept he’s 20 yrs older than me

  • djdiscomikki says:

Maschine is stupid imo, its nothing like the MPC i.e: you cant just hook it up and get it to output sound on its own, it has to interface with its own corresponding sampling program! Gotta say theres more to producing/ sequencing/ music than sampling, I mean in hip hop too. I know peeps that just sample shit, they cant do fuck all else but theres so much more to it lol…

  • massivebeatzz says:

well they saved cost by having the computer do the heavy lifting – and have the sound and muscle come from there…yes i know a box that doesnt need anything is ideal – but a maschine has more tech than an mpc 5000 – so i guess that’s the only way to make it affordable… – what scares me most with computers and software is more points of failure…boxes very rarely fail … Maschine is as close as it gets – but at the end it’s always about the artist- these things are just tools…

  • hrdtxs says:

With the MPC 60 with the 3.1 upgrade you can compress the sample down to 12bit/20k, but cause of the converters its still not gonna sound like a sp 1200.
