    All you need is the one machine bro, But You need a sorce to get samples from, The Mpc has a record in function, So You can hook it up to stuff like tape decks, turntables computers, anything with a audio line out,

    most people sample records into the mpc and then go from there. if you want to make beats without ANY outside equipment, look into keyboards like the fantom series by roland, the motif series by yamaha or the m series by korg for example.
